Explorations in the advancement of culture via social media and technology.

Decisions, Decisions…

So, I’m in a bit of a conundrum… as most of you, I have a number of online social media accounts. Friendster,MySpace, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter… the list goes on. While it may seem the last thing I need to do is start with another one, the issue is that I have “multiple online personality disorder”. This makes consolidation risky, as I may alienate some of my followers with irrelevant content. Does this sound familiar?

The issue is when I started most of my online accounts, it was often for the multi-faceted purpose of 1) exploring new media outlets, and 2) to build my personal online brand around my dj moniker (dj.inc.) and my events/mix shows (@tempoatl) within the music community. Fast forward 10 or so years down the road and the situation I find myself in now is that my lifestyle has changed a good bit (getting too old for those raucous late-nights) and while I still maintain a LOT of the same interests and motivations around music and dj culture, I have picked up several new passions along the way.

For one, I’ve recently gotten engaged to a beautiful Ballerina and so we’ve launched a wedding blog over here at www.woffordchuhaywedding.com. And, while we don’t do as many dj gigs as we used to, Chris & I still have a successful monthly mix show on Proton Radio, and our website www.tempoatl.com still houses all of our downloads, pics, etc. Over the years, my love for food and wine has grown and I’d love to have a place to share recipes, pics and interact with other foodies, but I don’t think I will initially be posting enough content to warrant my own food blog. Additionally, as my role has grown with my day job, and technology evolves, so has my interest in marketing and business development strategies involving social media, which is apparent in a lot of my tweets (you can follow me on Twitter @djinc).

SO… how do I aggregate all of this information into some easy-to-find, easy-to-follow, and most of all (for me) easy-to-maintain platform. I think for now the short answer is, “I don’t”. I think for now I will still maintain these different properties, and keep a more strict eye towards policing the type of content I post on each to make sure it’s fresh and relevant for those who care and easy-to-ignore for those who don’t.

As for this blog, I think I will try to focus on social media, online strategy, and general ramblings / findings while I figure out how to incorporate a food blog on here as well and allow followers to choose if they want to subscribe to the social media marketeer “me”, or the culinary-wannabe “me”. For the music ramblings, free downloads, and event info… follow @TempoATL on Twitter and we’ll keep you posted with what’s hot in our world there.

Thanks for your patience & I’d love to hear more about how you other “multiple online personality disorder” folks manage your many web brands and properties.

Great job on the blog Ryan! It looks really crisp and clean. Making me look bad over here! ;)

I know exactly what you mean about the different topics/interests. I've considered adding different categories to my blog so I can keep some topics separate but still on the same blog. I'm not there yet – we'll see how it plays out. Honestly, I think that eventually it will all merge together into centralized profiles, but there will be filters in place that let people decide what they do and do not want to consume. In the meantime, I'm really grateful to have TweetDeck. ;)

Congratulations on taking this step! I look forward to your posts.

Update… I actually finally canceled my Friendster account. lol… it took me forever to remember my password & I was no longer associated w/ the email address. So, I'm sorry to say to my former Friendster friends… you'll have to contact me via one of the other 28 methods.

Yeah – to be honest I have no idea why I still have a Friendster account. I suppose the same reason I kept my AOL account all those years – 'research and testing' haha
